Abamarama okhurula ebutere

The history of the Abamarama dates back to about two thousand years ago. Its origin is connected with Bukachi who lived at Ebubukachi (Kaugagi in Alego). Although the people who now occupy the area around Butere and Khwisero are generally referred to as Abamarama, it is noteworthy that there exist other clans with a strong sense of identity who get offended if called Abamarama. Such clans include the Abatere (hence Butere), Abashieni, Abamakhula, Abarechea and Abamanyulia.
